Going Green in Spring

1Untitled-1.jpg

Ahh, springtime! I love this transitional time of year where all things warm and cozy become fresh and light.  March has a special place in my heart because it is not only my birthday month but my sons as well.  His birthday is the first day of spring and it’s so special to me. He made me a mom and it was such a welcomed blessing just like Spring is a welcome change in our year.

I want to share my birthday month with each of you with a drawing for a neat little prize so read through to the end to see what that is.

March and springtime are also that time of year where we find ourselves getting into deep cleaning mode.  Show of hands if the following are on your cleaning to-do list:

Clean baseboards

Wash curtains, clean blinds

Move couches, tables, beds to vacuum underneath

Steam clean upholstery

Wash loads of winter blankets

Change out flannel bed sheets for lighter cotton

Change out filters in AC

Wash windows inside and out

Closet cleanouts

Replacing winter/fall smells with lighter citrus aromas in the house.

Great! Me too!  Whew that’s a lot of work and I’m sure we will find more to do!

A few years ago I realized that I was hoarding cleaning supplies and wax melts, bathroom sprays and all the things I thought made my house ‘smell’ clean.  Then of course I got smart, allowed essential oils in my life, learned and researched all the things and realized how much more damage these unnatural, synthetic products were actually doing to my home and my family.  Not to mention how much money it was really costing me regardless of coupons and store ‘deals’.

I decided the best thing for me and my family was to go chemical free, natural and green.  There was so much information out there!  I finally narrowed it down and after much trial and error I found DIY recipes that took care of all my cleaning needs.

As you probably guessed, all my cleaning DIY recipes include dōTERRA Essential Oils. I’m going to be totally transparent here, I was skeptical about how well the oils would ‘clean’.  I had become so accustomed to the smell of Fabuloso or lemon scented pinesol and that defined CLEAN to me.  How the heck were 15 drops of any oil going to lift soap scum, degrease my stove top and clean my toilets?? No way.

Way.  Oils totally put me in my place.  Again, once I did my research - which for me was cruising my dōTERRA site and Pinterest - and I learned over and over again how potent pure essential oils can be.  These oils just never cease to amaze me.

Here are my favorite oils for cleaning:

Lemon and Lime essential oils are powerful cleansing agents that purify the air and surfaces, and can be used as natural cleaners throughout the home.

Wild Orange is another great citrus oil to cleanse and purify surfaces. Putting a few drops in your own all-purpose spray will not only add a great cleansing boost but a lovely aroma as well!

Douglas Fir and Siberian Fir are also cleansing and purifying oils. These oils deodorize the air and leave a fresh, piney scent on surfaces.

Eucalyptus is refreshing and cleansing. Combine Eucalyptus, Lemon, and Peppermint with water and vinegar in a spray bottle and use it to wipe down surfaces in your kitchen or bathroom.

Tea Tree (Melaleuca) is well known for its purifying properties. Add a few drops of Tea Tree to a spray bottle with water and use on surfaces to protect against environmental threats. When diffused, Tea Tree will help purify and freshen the air.

Purify Cleansing Blend is comprised of Lemon, Siberian Fir, Citronella, Lime, Tea Tree, and Cilantro. This blend is specially designed to dispel unpleasant odors and purify the air.

Peppermint is refreshing and rejuvenating. It repels bugs naturally and creates an invigorating atmosphere when diffused or used topically on surfaces.

dōTERRA On Guard Protective Blend is made up of Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary essential oils. It provides natural protection against environmental factors and overall cleaning capability. doTERRA On Guard can be diffused to clear the air or used topically on hard surfaces.  The On Guard Cleaner Concentrate is a wonderful essential in your home!
