Your child’s First Vision Board

Well, this first quarter of 2020 was DEFINITELY NOT on my Vision Board! LOL.  What about you? I know as a business owner and an adult, we sometimes have to take the good with the bad and my positive mindset is not swayed so easily.  My vision board is a reminder of what I am working towards regardless of global pandemics. My mindset is firm yet resilient.

But our kids are a different story.

Our kids’ mindsets are still under construction for the most part and throwing in a pandemic,  quarantines and social distancing and it can do a number on their understanding of maintaining a positive mindset.

Since we are all currently doing some distance learning, why not incorporate some positive mindset work just for fun with your crew at home with a starter size vision board with an I AM BOARD.

An I AM Board is a creative way to encourage a positive mindset.

An I AM Board is a creative way to
encourage a positive mindset.

Positive mindset, self image and confidence is not just learned at school or in social settings.  Positive self image starts at home by reinforcing positive behaviors, positive self talk and creating a safe place to express it all.

You can guide your kids through creating an I AM BOARD.  Use the FREE printables below as a guide as for some positive affirmations.

Before you get started, you’ll need to find the following supplies:

  •  Poster Boards

    • Dollar store poster boards work well and you can even cut them in half to make it a less daunting task

  • Crafting supplies like markers, glue, scissors, crayons, etc.  Glue sticks work best, but double sided tape is less messy.

  • Extras like colorful paper, borders, glitter are super fun!

  • Don’t forget magazines!  Looking through magazines and cutting out imagery is a great way to ignite the imagination!

  • And remember, Google is your friend!  Our tech savvy kids are already masters at navigating Google, so find Google images and print in case the magazines are too old school for them.

Now for the conversation.  You know your kids better than anyone, so you will decide the best way to get started.  Here are some key questions and points to reinforce:

  • What do YOU think are some of your best qualities OR traits OR best things about you?

  • What are some of your favorite things to do? And follow up with do you think you can be better with these things OR are there things you want to try to do?   I.e, sports, reading, dancing, etc.

  • Make a list of all the ways you are good to others.

Once this conversation is done, let the creativity begin!  Assist your child with finding imagery to reflect their positive traits, their favorite things and whatever else inspires them to love themselves and all their awesomeness as they are right now!

Our kids are under unprecedented fear, anxiety and self doubt.  It makes perfect sense for us as parents to take advantage of this extra time we have at home to build up our kids and reinforce how a positive self image and mindset is a skill that will carry them through life.

This is great fun for all of us!  Send us pics of your finished projects.  Want to do the grown up version of this vision board?  Check it out at www.thespanglishcasita.com.
